The short version

Stride is a local-first app. Your habits and their history are stored in a database on your device. We do not run servers that store your habit data, we have no user accounts, and we cannot see what you track. The app does send a little data to three service providers — for anonymous usage analytics, for checking purchases, and for app updates — and none of it includes your habits or anything you type. You can turn analytics off in Settings.

Who we are

Stride is made by Lantean Tech (“we”, “us”). Lantean Tech is responsible for the personal data described in this policy, and is its “controller” under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This policy covers the Stride app on iPhone, iPad and Android, and this website, stridehabits.app. For anything about your privacy, email support@lantean.tech.

Your habit data stays on your device

Everything you enter in the app — your habits and their schedules, goals and reminders, your check-ins, and your name if you add one — is stored only on your phone or tablet. Reminders are scheduled on the device, and widgets read from the device. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.

Your device includes the app’s data in its standard backup — iCloud on iPhone and iPad, Google on Android — under Apple’s or Google’s terms; we cannot access those backups. You can also export your data from Settings as a JSON file (and, with Pro, a CSV file) and save it wherever you choose. Deleting the app deletes its data from the device; copies in device backups or in files you exported stay until you delete them.

Anonymous usage analytics (PostHog)

Unless you turn it off, the app sends usage events to PostHog, an analytics service in the United States. We use them to understand which features are used, to find problems, and to improve the app. An event records that something happened — for example “a habit was created”, “a check-in was made”, “a backup was exported” or “a screen was opened” — with options picked from the app’s own lists (such as a habit’s schedule type or an onboarding goal), whether you have Pro, and technical details: device manufacturer and model, operating system and version, app version, language, time zone and screen size.

Events are tied to a random identifier the app creates when it is installed. It is not linked to your name, your email address, your Apple or Google account, or any advertising identifier. Events never include the names of your habits, the amounts you log, or anything else you type.

Like any internet request, sending events reveals your device’s IP address to PostHog. The app tells PostHog not to work out a location from it, and our PostHog project is set to discard IP addresses instead of storing them with events.

You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings → Share anonymous usage data. While it is off, the app sends no analytics at all.

Purchases (App Store, Google Play and RevenueCat)

Stride Pro is bought through Apple’s App Store on iPhone and iPad, or through Google Play on Android. Apple or Google processes the payment under its own terms and privacy policy. We never see your payment details, and the stores do not give us your name or email address.

We use RevenueCat, a service in the United States, to confirm purchases and to know whether Pro is active on your device, including when you restore a purchase after reinstalling the app or on a new device. RevenueCat receives a random anonymous ID it creates for your installation; your purchase history from the store (products, price and currency, purchase, trial, renewal and expiry dates, and store transaction IDs); your store country; and technical details such as your device model, operating system and app version, along with your IP address as part of the connection. It never receives your habits.

While analytics is on, the app also adds the random analytics identifier described above to your anonymous RevenueCat record, so that we can match purchases with the analytics of the same installation. Turning analytics off removes it from that record. RevenueCat does not send your purchase data to PostHog.

App updates (Expo)

When it starts, the app asks Expo’s update service (EAS Update, run by 650 Industries, Inc. in the United States) whether a bug-fix update is available. That request includes a random installation identifier created by the update system, the app version and platform, and your IP address as part of the connection. Expo uses it to deliver the right update and to show us how many installations have received each one. It never includes your habits.

If you email us

When you contact us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and we use them only to reply to you. We keep the conversation for as long as we need it to deal with your request, and we delete it sooner if you ask.

This website

stridehabits.app is a static website. It sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics or ads, and loads no fonts, scripts or other content from third parties. It is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., which processes technical data about each request — such as your IP address, the page requested and your browser’s user agent — to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. The request logs available to us are kept for no more than 7 days. On iPhone and iPad, Safari may show a banner for Stride that it loads from Apple, and links to the App Store take you to Apple, under Apple’s privacy policy.

Who receives data

  • PostHog, Inc. (United States) — usage analytics.
  • RevenueCat, Inc. (United States) — purchase checks and Pro status.
  • 650 Industries, Inc. (Expo) (United States) — app updates.
  • Cloudflare, Inc. (United States, with a global network) — website hosting.

These providers process the data on our behalf and only to provide their service to us, under data processing terms that require them to protect it at least as well as this policy describes. Apple and Google also process data when you download the app, make a purchase or back up your device, and may share aggregated statistics and crash reports with us if you allowed that in your device settings; they do so as independent controllers under their own privacy policies. We do not sell personal data, share it for advertising, show ads, or track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)

  • Analytics: our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used and improving it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The data is minimal and pseudonymous, and you can object at any time with the switch in Settings.
  • Purchases: performing our contract with you by providing the Pro features you bought (Art. 6(1)(b)), and keeping the records the law requires us to keep (Art. 6(1)(c)).
  • App updates and this website: our legitimate interest in delivering an app and a website that work and are secure (Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • Emails to us: our legitimate interest in answering you (Art. 6(1)(f)), or our contract with you when your question is about a purchase (Art. 6(1)(b)).

How long we keep data

  • Habit data: on your device until you delete it. We never have a copy.
  • Analytics events: up to 12 months, the retention period of our PostHog plan.
  • Purchase records: for as long as we offer Stride, so that your purchase can be restored, and afterwards only as long as refunds, tax and accounting rules require.
  • Update requests: kept by Expo only as long as it needs them to run the update service.
  • Website request logs: no more than 7 days.
  • Emails: as long as we need them to deal with your request.

Your choices and rights

You can turn analytics off in Settings → Share anonymous usage data. You can delete your habit data by deleting habits in the app or by deleting the app, and remove copies from device backups in your iCloud or Google account settings.

Depending on where you live — including in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland — you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how it is used, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw any consent you gave. To use any of these rights, including to ask us to delete your data, email support@lantean.tech; we reply within one month. Because we do not know who you are, we may need your help to find your records: for a purchase, the order ID on your Apple or Google receipt lets us find the anonymous RevenueCat record. Analytics events are not linked to anything that identifies you, so we usually cannot pick out yours; turning analytics off stops new events, and deleting the app removes the random identifier they are tied to from your device.

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

International transfers

Our service providers are based in the United States, so the data described above is processed there. The United States does not have the same data protection laws as the EEA, the UK or Switzerland. Where those laws apply, these transfers rely on the safeguards in each provider’s data processing terms, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (and their UK and Swiss equivalents) or the provider’s certification under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

Security

Everything the app and this website send over the network is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Your habit data is protected by your device’s own security, such as its passcode and encryption.

Children

Stride is a general-audience app. It is not directed at children under 13, or under the minimum age for agreeing to data processing where they live, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, for example by email, contact us and we will delete it.

What we never collect

  • Your name, email address or any account information — there are no accounts. We only see your email address if you email us.
  • The names or contents of your habits, or anything else you type into the app.
  • Your location — the app does not use location services, and no location is worked out from your IP address.
  • Your contacts, photos, health data or advertising identifier.
  • Anything for advertising — there are no ads and no data sales.

Changes to this policy

We update this page whenever the app or this website changes how data is handled, and change the “Last updated” date above. If a change materially affects how we handle your data, we will point it out on this page before it takes effect.
